Since 1956, Viakon has been responsible for the newest and most advanced technology to inspire the most sophisticated cable manufacturing.
Proof of this, in association with Canada Wire & Cable Company, was completed in 1964 the tower is 43 meters high which housed inside the first vertical continuous vulcanization system in Latin America.

That same year, the plant marked the beginning of the development of power cables for medium and high voltage extruded insulation. Butyl Insulated power cables to 34.5kV. were manufactured.

Technological development continued in 1970 with the coming into operation of the double extrusion system for producing continuous vulcanization of wires (catenary). Six years later, in 1976, Viakon first manufactured in Latin America 69kV cable with thermosetting insulation. This advance took a big jump in the electrical industry, until then the largest cable voltage manufactured was of 34.5kV in the medium voltage range.

By 1984, Viakon concluded manufacturing the 115kV cable with extruded insulation and crosslinked, tested and certified for the first time in Mexico. This progress was achieved by physical and technological resources of our own.

In 1998, the capacity of the plant was expanded toward the goal of achieving the extrusion of extra high voltage cable, once again becoming the first to have this facility in Mexico. Reflecting this growth, the tower increased its height from 43 to 70 meters, staying inside a vertical line triple extrusion process for continuous dry crosslinking.

High Voltage Projects

Tangamanga

Circuit Transmission Line

San Luis Potosí, S.L.P.

In late 2003, the underground lines Tangamanga circuit transmission (115 kV), used average lengths of 450 meters to place joints records.

For this project, we supply sections up to 675 meters, allowing the connection between Tangamanga substation and 115 kV line one SLP - SLP PTE, optimizing the number of records for cable joints and reducing both maintenance costs including supplies.

In total, 20,900 meters of Cu KCM 750 Cal 115 KV PVC XLP-CFE-STANDARD 0000-17 cable were installed in this work.

CFE

Network Project Associate Laguna II

Torreón, COAH. y Gómez Palacio, DGO.

Until 2003 the underground lines at 115 kV, used average lengths of up to 450 meters between records for splicing, in sizes that occasionally came to be up to 800 mm2 conductor.

For this great project of CFE, which is and has been the most insulated cable required for High Voltage, Viakon provided 180,000 meters in sections of 800 meters, 800 mm2 copper caliber, manufactured under CFE Standard E-0000-17 , with an approximate weight of 12 tons per reel.

A cable with these features made possible the interconnection of 5 substations, optimizing the number of splices required and thus reducing the potential failure points.

The work was executed by Iberdrola Engineering and Consulting Mexico SA de CV., And became operational in late 2004.

NOINE

Transmission Line

For 2005 CFE raised the need to provide them with copper wire 2000 mm square cross section, for voltage levels of 115 kV, under international standard IEC60840.

Viakon was given the task of carrying out this development and certified by internationally recognized laboratory (CTL USA) while we were the first Mexican company to obtain this certification, which was achieved later to 138 kV.
